Set up MiniBook3 on Linux
A calm Linux till starts with a dedicated install root — then first launch, activate, and a test print before the queue forms.
Updated

Pick the right artifact
Prefer the .tar.gz with ./install.sh, or the .deb on Debian/Ubuntu, so MiniBook3 owns its own folder. AppImage suits trials and USB demos. Use install.sh on a normal online desktop; prefer the tarball when the shop is air-gapped.
- Do not unpack the inner bundle into a shared projects or Programs-style root
- In-app updates only replace files inside a verified install — unsafe parents are refused on purpose
- Launch from the applications menu or run minibook3 after install
Where the ledger lives
Shop data stays on this machine — typically under ~/.local/share/MiniBook3/. Back up that directory before moving PCs or wiping disks. Free and Solo do not replace that folder with a cloud copy of the ledger.
Activate and open the register
Request a key, verify when online, choose Free / Solo / Enterprise. Free needs no PayHere checkout. Solo and Enterprise complete payment on minibook3.zolestio.com, then return to the app. If the licence cloud is briefly down, Free can often open the register offline and retry activate later.
Printers and cash drawer (CUPS)
Configure the OS queue in CUPS first. Cash drawer kick rides with the receipt printer when wired correctly. Run a test print from Devices before lunch rush — not during it. Paid packages unlock richer receipt branding; Free still prints a working receipt.
First sale checklist
Add a few SKUs, open a shift with a float you can count back, ring a cash or card tender, confirm the receipt, then close the shift once so Z-report numbers feel real on day one.
